KA-BAR 2 Kukri Machete Review (updated 2024)

KA-BAR 2 Kukri Machete ReviewKA-BAR 2 Kukri Machete Review

The Kukri should not be deemed as simply a survival machete because it is much more of an all round knife. The Kukri, correct name khukuri, has its origins in Nepal and is famed for being the fighting knife of the elite Gurkha regiments of the British and Indian armies. But you needn’t worry, you don’t need to sign up for the Ghurkas to try out a Kukri as you can pick one up at pretty much any knife store. Many knife companies have a version of the kukri in their catalog but there is one excellent version that really stands out and that is the Ka-Bar 2 Kukri.KA-BAR 2 Kukri and Sheaf

The Ka-Bar 2 Kukri is a full tang machete/knife made with 1085 carbon steel, coated with a black epoxy powder, and a black ergonomically designed Kraton G thermoplastic elastomer molded handle. Kraton G is a very tough rubber that provides an excellent non slip grip that doesn’t feel sticky like so many other types of rubberized grips. Whether your hands are wet or dry, the Kraton G will provide an excellent non slip grip. The handle also has a lanyard hole should you need it.

The 11.5 inch blade offers a razor sharp 22 degree edge straight out of the box and is 0.165 inches thick.

The fact that this kukri is somewhat smaller in length than many of the other survival machetes reviewed here on Alpha Survivalist shouldn’t be seen as a disadvantage. At 17 inches in total length the Ka-Bar Kukri is easier carry, easier to handle, and much easier to use than the vast majority of other larger machetes.

The weight of the Ka-Bar is around 1.2 pounds and much of that weight is in the head of the blade making it an ideal tool for chopping, more so than most other machetes, in fact many users say that the kukri is as good as the best survival hatchets.

Ka-Bar supplies a black leather and Cordura sheaf to accompany their kukri which ensures the blade is safely stored or carried and also to aid with the longevity of the machete. However, it has to be said that although the Ka-Bar kukri is excellent the same cannot be said of its sheaf, however, it is functional and serves the purpose it is designed for well, particularly if the blade is only subjected to normal use.

What Jobs is the Ka-Bar 2 Kukri Best For?

As mentioned, the Ka-Bar Kukri is a versatile survival machete, equally as good for clearing campsites as it is as a weapon, and can even be used for jobs that a small axe or hatchet would normally be used for such as chopping down small trees.
