Condor Golok Machete Review

Why Choose the Condor Golok Machete?

Condor Golok Parang Machete Okay we have to admit that the Golok machete by Condor Tools and Knife, is not strictly a survival machete but because Condor is a brand that we really like and one that is well respected throughout the world we couldn’t help ourselves!

As a result of our indulgence we’ve allowed it to creep onto our list of best survival machetes, we are truly sorry, but we are not going to change anything so you’ll have to allow us this one minor indiscretion.

The Golok Parang full tang machete is one of Condor’s best selling machetes and when you first see it you will understand why.

It’s an absolutely beautiful looking machete, and yes, it is okay to use the word beautiful when describing a machete, especially the Golok!

Description

Blade

The long sweeping undulating curves from the tip of the 14” black powder epoxy finished blade to the bulbous hilt of the walnut handle which is held in place firmly by three brass rivets, make the Golok one of the most intrinsically pleasing machetes to look at that you’ll ever lay eyes on.

One should always remember that a machete, no matter how pleasing on the eye it may be, is only as good as the job it is designed to do, and the Golok does a pretty decent job when compared to most other machetes!

The weight and length of this machete makes it ideal for both chopping and clearing light vegetation or long grass.

The 14” blade is made from 1075 high carbon steel and is coated with an epoxy black powder coating.

The blade itself is a quarter of an inch thick at the handle tapering down to a tenth of an inch at the tip and, as with all Condor blades, leaves the factory with a razor sharp edge.

Handle

The handle, as previously mentioned, is made from walnut and fits perfectly in your hand with the bulbous knob on the end of the handle, that incidentally also houses a brass lined lanyard hole, acting as a stop, preventing the machete from slipping through your grip, all-in-all a great looking machete handle.Condor Golok Machete lying on side
Sheaf

The Golok is supplied with a 100% black leather sheaf with belt loop, it’s not particularly ground breaking in its design but it looks nice and serves the purpose well.

Our View

Although manufactured in El Salvador this is a 100% German machete and with most things German made it is a quality product, simple in design yet 100% purpose in mind, however it is still an aesthetically pleasing machete as well as being a great tool to work with.

With regards to the Goloks use as a survival machete, it may not be the best choice but it certainly wouldn’t be the worst you could make, far from it.

On the down side, it’s considerably more expensive than other machetes on our list but you would be paying for a quality tool made with top notch materials.

However, we wouldn’t be doing our job properly if we didn’t point out that we believe there were better value machetes on our list of survival machetes.
